Overview
The Small Tools Mechanic is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of small tools and equipment, including power tools, hand tools, and other machinery used in the field or within the facility. This role ensures that all tools and equipment are in safe working condition, reducing downtime and ensuring that operations can proceed smoothly. The ideal candidate will have mechanical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and repair a variety of small equipment.

Duties

  • Tool Repair & Maintenance: Diagnose, repair, and maintain small tools and equipment such as drills, saws, grinders, compressors, pressure washers, and other power tools.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on tools to identify and resolve potential issues before they affect performance.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot malfunctions in tools and equipment to determine the cause of failure and implement effective repairs.
  • Parts Management: Order and replace defective or worn parts, ensuring that all tools are restored to operational standards.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and parts used for inventory tracking and accountability.
  • Tool Calibration & Testing: Ensure that tools and equipment are properly calibrated and tested after repairs to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety standards and protocols while working with tools and equipment. Ensure that tools meet safety guidelines before they are returned to use.
  • Training & Support: Provide training and guidance to staff on the proper use and maintenance of small tools. Assist with troubleshooting minor issues in the field.
  • Emergency Repairs: Be available for emergency tool repairs to minimize operational downtime during critical tasks.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Specific Tools: Familiarity with industry-specific tools or machinery may be an advantage (e.g., construction tools)
  • High School Diploma or GED: Required; vocational or technical training in mechanics is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues.
