Meridian Contracting is a regional leader in heavy civil construction—delivering essential infrastructure such as roads, flood control systems, concrete structures, and mining support projects across Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support daily operations at our active job sites. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in the field and is ready to grow their career by directly supporting high-impact projects with technical insight and real-world coordination.


Successful Team Members in This Role Will…

  • Coordinate daily construction activities in partnership with Project Managers and Superintendents

  • Monitor quality, safety, and schedule compliance throughout the duration of the project

  • Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to support field operations and clarify scope

  • Track project costs, materials, subcontractor progress, and field issues

  • Conduct and document site inspections, safety meetings, and daily reports

  • Maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams

  • Solve field-level problems and help implement technical solutions in real time

  • Ensure all project documentation is up to date and aligned with requirements

  • Assist with budgeting, scheduling, change management, and punch list activities


🛠️ A Day in the Life of a Project Engineer:

  • Review updated drawings and work plans with field crews before work begins

  • Conduct morning safety walkthroughs and capture daily log details

  • Check that subcontractor work aligns with project specs and schedule

  • Collaborate with PMs to track costs and forecast remaining tasks

  • Work alongside field teams to resolve layout, materials, or sequencing questions

  • Communicate with vendors and clients to ensure transparency and alignment

  • Wrap up by logging updates, submitting reports, and prepping for the next work phase

  • Clear, timely communication between field and office teams

  • Zero unresolved safety, compliance, or inspection issues

  • Accurate and complete daily reporting and documentation

  • On-time delivery of field tasks and milestone deliverables

  • Demonstrated growth in technical and leadership capabilities


🧰 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a field engineering or civil construction support role

  • Strong understanding of heavy civil methods, equipment, and job site operations

  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam)

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications

  • Willingness to travel and work at job sites in AZ, NM, and CO as needed

  • Physically able to work in a field environment, including weather exposure and terrain
