Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Heavy Civil Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating and project management within the heavy civil construction sector, including roads, bridges, utilities, and earthworks. As a Heavy Civil Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for various projects, ensuring that all aspects are thoroughly considered and accounted for.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation: Develop accurate and detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, and overheads.
  • Project Analysis: Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand scope and requirements. Identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Bid Preparation: Prepare and submit competitive bids in accordance with project specifications and deadlines. Ensure all bid proposals are complete and accurate.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors. Negotiate terms and prices to achieve the best value.
  • Cost Control: Monitor project costs throughout the construction phase and provide cost control measures to keep projects within budget.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure accurate project costing and alignment with project goals.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of estimates, change orders, and project documentation. Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards.
  • Market Research: Stay informed about market trends, material costs, and industry developments to provide informed estimates and recommendations.
  • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients, architects, and engineers to clarify project details, address concerns, and provide updates as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Heavy Civil Estimator or in a similar role within the heavy civil construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment used in heavy civil projects.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., HCSS, Bluebeam, PlanSwift).
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations, codes, and safety standards.
