About the Opportunity 🚧
Meridian Engineering’s Equipment Division is seeking a dynamic Heavy Equipment Superintendent to lead our comprehensive equipment operations across the Southwest. This role combines strategic fleet management with hands-on leadership, overseeing everything from large construction excavators to everyday hand tools. You’ll be the backbone of our equipment lifecycle management, ensuring our construction teams have reliable, safe, and cost-effective equipment support for projects ranging from industrial facilities to civil infrastructure.

- Lead equipment lifecycle management from procurement and rental decisions through maintenance, repair, and disposal
- Supervise and develop a team of mechanics, technicians, and equipment specialists
- Coordinate seamlessly with construction superintendents to ensure optimal equipment deployment and availability
- Drive cost-efficiency through strategic purchasing, preventive maintenance programs, and fleet optimization
- Maintain exceptional safety standards across all equipment operations and compliance protocols
- Manage small tools inventory and tracking systems for maximum accountability and availability
- Oversee vehicle fleet operations including trucks, pickups, trailers, and specialized transport equipment
- Build vendor relationships with equipment dealers, rental companies, and parts suppliers
A Day in the Life… 🔧
Your morning might start reviewing equipment deployment across three active jobsites, then shift to evaluating a major equipment purchase proposal. You’ll balance strategic planning with hands-on problem-solving, always keeping equipment uptime and cost-effectiveness at the forefront.
- Review fleet status reports and coordinate equipment deployment across multiple project sites
- Meet with mechanics in the shop to diagnose critical equipment issues and plan repair strategies
- Conduct safety meetings and ensure DOT compliance across all equipment operations
- Coordinate equipment moves between projects and schedule preventive maintenance windows
- Work with project managers to forecast equipment needs for upcoming bids and project phases
- Negotiate with equipment vendors and rental companies for optimal pricing and service agreements
- Mentor junior mechanics and provide technical guidance on complex repairs
- Complete fleet inspections and update maintenance schedules to maximize equipment

Qualifications 🎯
Required:
- 5+ years of heavy equipment management/superintendent or fleet supervision experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to diagnose and direct complex repairs
- Leadership experience managing technical teams (mechanics, operators, technicians)
- CDL or comprehensive knowledge of DOT compliance and transportation regulations
- Budget management experience with equipment procurement and maintenance costs
- Safety-first mindset with knowledge of OSHA requirements and best practices
- Project coordination skills with ability to work across multiple construction sites
Preferred:
- Experience with Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, or other major equipment lines
- Fleet management software proficiency (maintenance tracking, GPS systems, inventory management)
- Formal training in diesel mechanics, hydraulics, or heavy equipment technology
- Construction industry experience in civil, industrial, or infrastructure projects
- Vendor negotiation and procurement experience
Bonus Points:
